Barter Boat/Minnesotan Ice

Interactive Installation  |  Summer 2016  |  mixed media

The Barter Boat (formerly known as Minnesotan Ice) is a state-fair concession stand from a dystopian Minnesotan future. As Minnesotan Ice, it was one where potable water was noted a special occasion and visitors could barter for one of 3000 handmade ARTifact ice pops filled with trinkets. Lucky traders may have received a rare 100% potable ice water pop! It was presented as Minnesotan Ice at Northern Spark 2016 (with the help of Tom Loftus and Mahmoud Hakima) and at the Summer 4Play event at Fort Snelling State Park on July 30th with Anna Abhau Elliott.

It was adapted to Barter Boat and presented the IN Light IN festival (with RADAR Collective and the help of Krystianna Johnson) in Indianapolis in August 2016. In this iteration of the project, people were invited to trade for curated packages of the objects collected in Minnesota.

This project was conceived of and created by RADAR Collective (myself, Desiree Moore and Anna Abhau Elliott).
